Pantry Basics
I am constantly being asked what basics one should have on hand to create great meals at home. Usually a recipe will call for a selection of spices or other staples that are assumed to have on hand. Here is a short list and some tips to help you when you are faced with another mealtime challenge.
A housework routine enables us to get our work done efficiently in a timely manner. An orderly home may also contribute to a calmer family. Here are some examples of various housework routines from the early 1900s to more recent times. Keep in mind that in those early years, housework was physically harder, but most women were not employed outside of the home.
When your income goes down for any reason, or just because you want to live more economically, there are many simple ways to save money. Some of these are very obvious, but it's surprising that we don't really practice them until we have to.
Keep the water after you boil eggs, it's good to water your plants with it! It has a lot of minerals in it. Grow extra large and juicy tomatoes. Before planting add one tablespoon of Epsom salt in the hole.
Homemade Insecticide: Spray plants with your old dishwater. The soap kills of the bugs. Sprinkle crushed up eggs shell around flower plants and roses to keep slugs and bugs away.
Clean the leaves of your plant with a cotton ball dipped in milk. Makes it shiny.
Various ways to keep cool in summer without using an air conditioner. Alternatively these tips can be used to make an existing air conditioner more efficient.
